Following Samsung/LG, Philips also gave up 3D TV

Although 3D TVs are highly anticipated by consumers, they have not been truly popularized due to various reasons such as film sources and TV architecture. Now 3D TVs will gradually disappear. Previously, Korean TV brands Samsung and LG have successively stated that they will not introduce 3D TVs any more, and Philips recently stated that 3D functions will disappear from Philips TV in 2016.

According to reports, Danny Tack, executive of Philips' product strategy and planning, said: "3D is dead. There are not many 3D resources, and no one really wants them. The 3D function will also make your TV more complicated. There is no consumer demand." It is not difficult to infer that Philips' attitude towards 3D TV.

Abandoning 3D TVs does not mean that Philips' overall retreat of the TV industry has shifted its focus to OLED TVs. Philips is full of expectations for OLED TVs and hopes to be able to act at the right time to avoid falling behind. At present, the main push OLED TVs are LG, Philips, Skyworth, Konka and other major appliance brands.
