ZTE, Qualcomm and Aircell cooperate to launch the industry's first air mobile broadband system
ZTE USA, a subsidiary of telecommunications equipment and network solution provider ZTE, and Qualcomm, a leading wireless technology and data solution development and innovation company, have announced that they have cooperated with Aircell to become Aircell's new airborne Internet Service Gogo to create a network platform. The platform provided services to some flights of American Airlines for the first time in August this year. Aircell's Air-to-Ground (ATG) service is based on ZTE's EV-DO version A base station and IP switching platform and Qualcomm's on-board modem. The R & D teams of ZTE, Aircell and Qualcomm worked closely to launch this customized solution aimed at maximizing the performance of air services.
ZTE ’s base stations are distributed throughout the United States to support Aircell ’s aviation customer service. During the flight, the user's WiFi traffic is transmitted to ZTE's CDMA EV-DO version A network equipment via Qualcomm's onboard modem. The technology is designed for the connection between aircraft and base stations flying at high speeds and altitudes, which greatly improves the slow, expensive and complicated air wireless services in the past.
Dr. George Sun, CEO of ZTE America, said: "At ZTE, we are committed to developing customized and flexible solutions to help our customers and partners provide their customers with the most innovative and The most attractive application and service. As far as the service is concerned, through close cooperation with Aircell and Qualcomm, we are able to build this most advanced and flexible network platform with top R & D talent. We look forward to Work with Aircell and Qualcomm to expand the scale of the platform to meet the growing market demand and support the future expansion of this service. "
Ahmad Jalali, vice president of technology at Qualcomm, said: "Qualcomm is very pleased to work with Aircell and ZTE to successfully launch this unique wireless data innovation service. Transmitting aircraft passenger traffic to ZTE ’s ground base stations requires a strong, high-frequency spectrum Efficient, high data rate connection, and EV-DO version A is the ideal choice. "
"When we designed the industry's first air mobile broadband service, we were looking for companies that could work with us to create a flexible and customized network platform optimized for our unique ATG service." Aircell Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Joe Cruz said, "We finally decided to cooperate with ZTE and Qualcomm. Through the cooperation, we launched the only comprehensive airborne Internet service in North America, bringing customers the most advanced airborne broadband experience."
