In the historical period when the current application of semiconductor lighting is booming, on the one hand, there is limited space for breakthroughs in independent intellectual property rights in the traditional technology field, and a considerable part of important international core patents will soon be ineffective; on the other hand, it is industrial development. The focus of the focus has shifted back, and the application fields are large and wide, and each has different technical breakthrough intervals and different focuses. It is timely to establish China's independent intellectual property rights system in the field of semiconductor lighting applications, and the realization of this goal It must be based on the whole industry, all-round, and continuous scientific and technological innovation work.

At the 11th Optical Fair, “China Science and Technology Fortune†magazine interviewed Mr. Yang Xiancheng, Executive Vice President and Secretary General of China International Optoelectronics Expo.
LED lighting industry is strong

Yang Xiancheng: The Expo began to get involved in the LED field, in 2001. Based on the experience of LED exhibitions in recent years, the issue of LED lighting application industry is an important part of national energy conservation and emission reduction. LEDs are still in technological innovation, which is a problem; there is another problem, that is, the cost is relatively high and it is difficult to popularize.
The “Ten Cities and Ten Thousand†semiconductor lighting application project, the first phase is 16 cities, the second phase launched 21 cities, indicating the government's decision to develop LED. Now all the demonstration cities are conducting pilot projects. Shenzhen will come up with one or two regions, including the World Universiade, and all the venues use LED lighting. In terms of application, LED lighting will enter the market with a strong impact due to government projects, government intervention and government guidance.
On the other hand, although the energy-saving prospects of LED lighting are very good, in terms of the current industry situation, the technical difficulties of some light sources and their cost are urgently needed to be solved by the industry. China's technology wealth: How is the theme of LED exhibition this year different from previous years? What is the difference in scale?
Yang Xiancheng: On the scale, from the perspective of exhibitors and products, this year has a new breakthrough compared with previous years. In the past, the LED Expo of the Expo was mainly to show LED materials, LED devices, LED devices, etc., going from the bottom up. This year, LED packaging and chip companies have been added to the high-end development, making the entire LED industry a relatively complete industrial chain.
A bigger breakthrough this year is LED lighting. In the past, the Expo was mainly prominent in the display of LED screens and enterprises. It basically gathered all the famous LED screen manufacturers in China to participate in the exhibition, but in terms of LED lighting, it can basically be said that there is no. This year, we focused on expanding LED lighting. The newly added Hall 3 is basically all LED lighting companies. There are also some LED lighting companies in the original No. 2 Hall. This is also an obvious trend of the future LED exhibition of the Expo, which is to focus on the application and promotion content, because it is directly related to the improvement of the households in the future of household lighting and new light source energy saving, and in the "Ten Cities and Ten Thousand Miles" project A very important aspect of the program is the technical breakthrough in energy conservation and emission reduction. The Expo will build this platform and make a bigger promotion at this level. This is the feature of this year.
China's technology wealth: How is it compared to last year's scale?
Yang Xiancheng: There were more than 400 exhibitors at the LED Expo last year. This year, a new pavilion was opened. More than 170 new LED lighting companies have been added. This year, the LED industry exhibitors reached 600 in the Expo. A lot.
China's science and technology wealth: As the main organizer of professional exhibitions, paying attention to the industry, understanding enterprises and improving services are the core elements of the exhibition's long-term foundation. Can you talk about this, what is the hot topic of LED lighting industry this year? What is the most worrying question?
Yang Xiancheng: Actually, this is a very technical and authoritative topic. I just talked about it from the exhibition level. Because it is a technical problem, some are social issues, and some are national policy issues. We can't just elaborate, but we can see something from the show.
For example, the promotion of LED lighting applications, now the key is the need for technological breakthroughs, the existing LED technology, brightness, service life and other research and development issues for the future LED lighting is a key issue in terms of cost and popularity. In addition, the government is now increasing its promotion efforts. During the exhibition, we learned from the communication with LED companies that the company hopes that the government can give them greater support, including the need for government in some research projects and research funding. Even the county level government supports them at the city level. When we do the survey, the company hopes that these levels of government can give enterprises more practical support, such as helping enterprises to be technically assisted, and policies can give enterprises a relatively relaxed environment and clear policy provisions and regulations. Funds can also give the company a part of support, so that as a company can carry out deeper and greater research and development, promotion, and strive to achieve their value and application.
Concerns, from the exhibition can also see some problems, such as high LED technology, such as its chip, packaging technology, epitaxial film, brightness, lumens illumination changes, high technical content. On the other hand, it is another industry with a very low threshold. At present, there are more than 700 LED enterprises in the Pearl River Delta. In fact, 60%? 70% of them are low-threshold enterprises. Any one factory, dozens of people, used to do light pipes and do electronics, but now it is not good. So all turn to LED, the materials they use to produce the products and the technical content of the products are not up to the industry standards and quality requirements, such products into the market, will inevitably have a large negative impact, which for the entire LED industry Said that it is a rather unfavorable factor.
China's technology wealth: What companies are you talking about here?
Yang Xiancheng: The main reason is that SMEs are mostly, and many small enterprises are not doing well because of the electronic aspects. These small business products directly impact the LED market, it is not fake, but it is low-cost, low-quality things. So many times, after purchasing a cheap LED product, the application party will say that the LED is scammed, the promotion can be used for 10,000 hours, and the result is scrapped in less than 100 hours. This problem has been around for a while in lighting applications, especially in the first two years. We are doing research, and in some small electronics factories in the Pearl River Delta, we are doing this kind of thing. This is damage to the LED market and damage to the interests of ordinary people. How does the government manage this problem? How to constrain? How to set this threshold? How to formulate the regulations of this industry? I think it deserves our deep thought.
China's science and technology wealth: What role do you think the “Ten Cities and Ten Thousands†can play in the development of the industry?
Yang Xiancheng: The role that can be played is led by the government to conduct a guidance. Because it can only be done by the government, there is still a distance to achieve universalization. The government will guide and then carry out norms, and finally return to the market law, the survival of the fittest, small unqualified enterprises will be eliminated. Another is the combination of enterprises. This is an inevitable trend, because at a certain time, the company can't break through, that is, the products are cheaper and the market will not pay. It will inevitably lead to the transformation of enterprises. Just like the electronics industry, it is the process of slowly optimizing, and the LED industry will be like this.
Analysis of the impact of the financial crisis on the LED industry
China's science and technology wealth: From the exhibition situation this year, what is the impact of the financial crisis on the LED lighting application industry? During the exhibition, will you feel the impact of the financial crisis on the LED lighting industry?
Yang Xiancheng: In fact, this year's Guangbo Fair, the total exhibition area has increased by more than 10,000 square meters compared with last year, and the expansion is the LED field. In the face of the financial turmoil, we began to have no bottom in mind. At the end of last year and at the beginning of this year, the organizing committee specially organized a study group and spent more than three months visiting more than 230 optoelectronic enterprises in the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta regions. Understand their current situation and countermeasures under the impact of the financial crisis. During the inspection process, we felt that this year in the field of LED, the industry is not in decline, but is constantly developing and making a strong breakthrough. Although it has also suffered some shocks, the LED industry is still developing. In comparison, the buyer group is more affected. Because there are many LED products, such as LED screens, they are not only sold in China, but also sold abroad, so they will be affected by international buyers. The same is true for LED lighting. The company's products are turning to the international market. In terms of international buyers, this exhibition has also been affected.
Since the launch of the national “Ten Cities and Ten Thousand Miles†program, the confidence of LED companies has been very high. Many demonstration bases in the city have come to the exhibition site this year. Many cities have sent government procurement teams to the exhibition and asked us to exhibit. The company's information, consulting which companies have superior product quality, and on-site exchanges with LED companies face-to-face, the atmosphere is very enthusiastic. Therefore, the domestic market is relatively good and active, and the foreign market is affected.

Yang Xiancheng: Next year, LED lighting will be the main highlight of the Expo, and it will also be launched as a key point. This is a task that we must complete in conjunction with the “Ten Cities and Ten Thousand†semiconductor lighting project. Because we are more to help companies find market benefits, they will be launched on the platform of our exhibition, help companies find buyers, and promote their cooperation in research and development and technology.
Next year's 12th Expo will increase our efforts to introduce international and domestic LED brand companies and their products in high-end research and development, packaging, chips and other fields, and will continue to be closely related to enterprise production and product development.
