According to SAR Insight & ConsulTIng analyst Peter Cooney, the global wireless headset market is taking off quickly and is expected to surpass the wired headset market in 2016.
The consumer headset market will steadily rise in 2016, reaching $15.5 billion in annual revenue and is expected to continue to grow strongly in 2020, reaching more than $20 billion in value.
SAR Insight & ConsulTIng expects more than 1 billion wireless stereo headsets to ship worldwide between 2016 and 2020, with total cumulative revenue from wireless stereo headsets expected to exceed $60 billion.
"Sensors will become more and more important in wireless stereo headphones," Cooney said. "This market was initially driven primarily by sports applications, and in the longer term, there will be strong demand for sensors in multi-purpose listening devices."
The Asia Pacific region is expected to be the fastest growing area for wireless headset sales, especially in the Chinese market.
