This circuit uses a 40:1 CMOS NAND gate, a pair of diodes, and an NPN power transistor to form a DC source with variable duty cycle. The speed control is the average voltage of the motor. However, the peak voltage is constant and this pulsed power supply is effective at lower speeds; at higher speeds, the motor operates near normal.
