In order to adapt national regulations to modern needs and to harmonize with EC regulations, the Swiss Federal Metrology and Accreditation Authority has developed a series of regulations, including regulations on physical measuring instruments, regulations on space measuring instruments, and continuous dynamic measuring of liquids (except water). The regulations of the measurement system, the regulations about the automatic weighing instrument, the regulations on the heat meter, the regulations on the gas meter and the gas volume conversion device, the regulations on the exhaust gas analyzer, and the regulations on the electricity meter. These eight regulations on different types of measuring instruments harmonize Swiss law with the new European Directive 2004/22/EC on measuring instruments (MID). These regulations stipulate the special basic requirements and corresponding conformity assessments of measuring instruments and systems that fall within the scope of legal metrological control, and specify procedures for controlling the use of measuring instruments for commercial use and for maintaining metering characteristics after sale.
These eight regulations correspond to special instrument accessories for the European Community Directive on Measuring Instruments (MID). These regulations are scheduled to take effect on October 30, 2006.
