Intel Q3: Net Profit Declines 14%

Intel announced the financial report for the third quarter of fiscal year 2012 in Beijing early this morning. Data show that in the quarter ended September 29, Intel's net revenue was 13.5 billion US dollars, down from 14.2 billion US dollars in the same period of last year, a decline of nearly 5%. The net profit for the quarter was 3 billion U.S. dollars, lower than the 3.5 billion U.S. dollars last year. Declined by 14%. Performance beyond Wall Street expectations led to a slight increase after the close.

By region, Intel’s third-quarter revenue was US$2.852 billion in the Americas, down from US$3.017 billion in the same period of last year. In Europe, Intel’s revenue was US$1.775 billion, down from US$1.814 billion in the same period last year. Revenue from the Asia-Pacific region was $1.135 billion, down from $1.352 billion in the same period last year.

According to the business segment, Intel’s revenue from the PC customer group for the third quarter was US$8.633 billion, down from US$9.417 billion in the same period of last year. Operating profit was US$3.337 billion, compared to US$4.014 billion in the same period last year. Data Center Group’s revenue in the third quarter was US$2.654 billion, which was higher than US$2.512 billion in the same period of last year. Operating profit was US$1.212 billion, compared with US$1.221 billion in the same period last year. In the third quarter, other architecture group net revenues were US$1.177 billion, compared to US$1.368 billion in the same period of last year. Operating losses were $235 million, and operating losses for the same period last year were $140 million. Intel Software and Services Group’s net revenue for the third quarter was US$588 million, down from US$541 million in the same period last year. Operating profit was US$4 million, and operating profit for the same period last year was US$18 million. The total revenue of other business units was US$405 million, compared to US$395 million in the same period last year. Operating loss was US$477 million, with a loss of US$328 million in the same period last year.
