Sweden is using VR to train army and residents

Today's international military forces are playing an increasingly important role in crisis response and peace support operations around the world.

Whether it is under the auspices of the United Nations, NATO, the European Union or other organizations, these forces are now engaged in relevant tasks with the cooperation of local residents. They must be good at interacting with international civilians and interacting with local residents in conflict areas.

In the face of this reality, the Swedish armed forces have taken a new approach. SWUDINT, the Swedish International Center for Armed Forces, used vr technology during a two-week civil-military relationship training to allow military, police and civilian trainees to work together.

SWEDINT has established a VR practice room where students learn to perform joint assessment tasks in fictional conflict areas. These exercises may not resolve tensions nor eliminate stereotypes, but it reveals to different students what they might encounter in conflict areas around the world and how to deal with them.
