Korean media etnews reported on the 28th that many industry insiders said that it is understood that BOE's B11 and B12 plants will become Apple's exclusive OLED production line.
The B11 plant is located in Mianyang, Sichuan, and is the second flexible OLED panel producing area after BOE's B7 plant in Chengdu, Sichuan. BOE will invest RMB 46.5 billion in the B11 plant. In the future, B11 will produce 70% of the flexible panels and 30% of the foldable panels.
The B12 plant may be located in Chongqing, and the future production of flexible and foldable panels will be 50:50. The rumored BOE executives recently visited Apple headquarters and submitted information on B11 and B12 factories. It is still unclear whether BOE’s large-scale investment has been granted Apple’s permission beforehand, and it can only be determined that BOE is actively grabbing the order.
The current OLED panel order for the iPhone is taken by Samsung Display Panel, a Samsung panel manufacturer. Originally, LG Display was expected to be the most likely to share Samsung orders. It was unexpected that BOE suddenly broke out. Panel industry sources said that from the perspective of quality and output, BOE technology still lags behind the Korean factory, but BOE is chasing money and will do its best to grab Apple orders.
