Maxim introduces the MAX15050/MAX15051 low-voltage (2.9V to 5.5V), 4A, synchronous rectification DC-DC regulator in a 2mm x 2mm wafer level package (WLP). These miniature buck regulators have built-in MOSFETs that greatly simplify design complexity, reduce EMI and board space. The device operates at a fixed 1MHz switching frequency, further reducing the overall solution size, allowing the use of an all-ceramic capacitor design. The peak efficiency of these two point-of-load application converters is up to 96%, which greatly reduces power consumption in portable to networked applications.

The MAX15050 uses skip-pulse mode to improve light-load efficiency, making it ideal for laptops and single-cell battery-powered portable devices. The MAX15051 operates in forced PWM mode for telecom, network, and base station equipment. Other features of the device include an enable input and power-good indication for power sequencing, an adjustable soft-start for controlled startup, and a safe start-up to pre-biased output.

The MAX15050/MAX15051 have ±1% output voltage accuracy over the entire load, supply, and temperature range, and operate over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range.
