Microsoft today announced at the International Consumer Electronics Show in 2018 that companies such as Qualcomm are developing reference designs that encourage hardware manufacturers to integrate Microsoft's artificial intelligence assistant Cortana into more devices. In addition, Qualcomm also announced plans to use Cortana as an important part of its intelligent audio platform.
According to a report released by Qualcomm, the Qualcomm intelligent audio platform integrated with Cortana is scheduled to be released to device manufacturers in the first half of 2018.
Also joining Microsoft's Cortana Partner Program are SynapTIcs, Allwinner and Tomly. Each project participant is developing a reference design for the manufacturer, integrating Cortana into intelligent networks and smart home devices.
Microsoft's Cortana Device SDK was first publicly previewed in December 2016.
Last week, smart device maker Johnson Controls announced plans to release an intelligent thermostat with built-in Cortana.
In addition to the reference design, Microsoft also announced that Cortana is compatible with mainstream smart home brands such as Honeywell, Ecobee, LIFX and TP-Link Kasa, controlling smart light bulbs, thermostats and smart plugs.
There is Microsoft's support behind Cortana, and so far, the artificial intelligence of other technology companies has become the focus of this year's International Consumer Electronics Show.
Last fall, Samsung promised to release smart TVs and home connected refrigerators. Its artificial intelligence assistant Bixby will also be integrated into Harman International's 5G connected car platform.
Google yesterday, together with partners such as JBL and Sony, showed how its smart digital assistants can be integrated into smart speakers, and demonstrates how Google Smart Digital Assistant is at the heart of the Android Auto user experience.
Similarly, Amazon's smart assistant Alexa has been integrated into many devices, ranging from kitchen appliances to wireless headsets to in-vehicle real-world devices and augmented reality glasses.
