Qualcomm and Sharp jointly explore new technologies for energy-saving LCD panels

According to news on December 4, according to foreign media reports, Sharp and Qualcomm have reached an agreement to jointly develop energy-saving LCD panels for smartphones.

"Japan Economic News" recently reported that Sharp will provide its indium gallium zinc oxide technology for joint development, which can significantly reduce the power used by the panel. The newspaper said details of the cooperation between the two parties will be announced as early as Tuesday.

The report also pointed out that Sharp will obtain 5 billion yen (about 61 million U.S. dollars) from Qualcomm by the end of this year by way of additional new shares. Sharp will also receive another 5 billion yen if there is significant progress.

According to reports, according to Sharp's closing price on Monday, an investment of 10 billion yen will enable Qualcomm to acquire approximately 5% of Sharp's shares.

Qualcomm and Sharp spokespersons did not respond to media requests for interviews.

Sharp was a pioneer in LCD technology. Due to huge losses and constant loss of market share, the company's market value has evaporated by three quarters this year.
