Application of ESD device in protection circuit

USB, SD card, MMC card, DVI/HDMI, CAN and other interfaces, because the user often hot swaps in use, the chip on the board is very susceptible to static electricity. This adds a protection device to the interface to prevent damage to the chip.

USB1.1, USB2.0, SD card, MMC card and other interfaces, because the user often hot swaps, the chip on the board is very susceptible to static electricity. This kind of application can't be protected by channels such as ordinary Zener tubes, because the reaction rate of the Zener tube is too slow and the capacitive load is large, which will affect the data communication on the channel. NXP offers the following solutions for customer reference.

First, USB2.0 protection (PRTR5V0U4D for dual USB)

The following figure shows the connection of PRTR5V0U4D in a dual USB application.

Fourth, DVI / HDMI protection

DVI and HDMI interfaces are commonly used for digital video to audio and display panels. Processing of high frequency signals (up to 1.6 GHz) requires these data lines to be configured with very low line capacitance. Philips offers a unique 1pF line capacitance protection device. Performance continues to maintain the 8 kV accessible IEC61000-4-2 standard. The following figure shows the connection of the NXP ESD device in the DVI / HDMI interface protection circuit.

Five, independent Audio / Video protection

The following figure shows the connection of PRTR5V0U4D / PESD5V0L4Ux in the independent Audio/Video interface protection circuit.
