How to build a simple UVLED circuit

Release date: 2017-11-30 Source: led network share:

We will build an ultraviolet ( UV ) LED circuit.

This is a circuit that causes the UV LED to emit light, releasing UV light.

This is a very simple circuit that requires only one UV LED, one resistor and one power supply (a DC power supply or a 3- cell AA battery).

The UV LEDs of the power supply, we need the correct voltage and current. A resistor is needed so that we can bias and limit the current so that the correct flow to the LED .

Some of the materials needed :

• UVLED

• 250 Ω resistor

• 3 AA batteries

In this circuit, we will use 4.5v voltage UV LED. If you have a DC power supply, you can use this to adjust the voltage, or you can connect the output of 4.5v 3 AA batteries connected in series to generate 4.5V. Because each AA battery emits 1.5V , the 3 series will be 4.5V , since the voltages in the series battery are added together.

For this project, the use of ultraviolet light emitting diode to model and ysl-r547p4c-e3 number provided.

All LEDs need about 3.3v to drop through it 16-18ma .

This is the UV LED of the data sheet that we are using: UV LED data sheet.

The data sheet specifies that the LED should receive a 3V and 3.6V voltage drop between. This is specified in the forward voltage specification. Voltage forward voltage, the anode and the cathode LED

Since we want to limit the current flowing through the LED to 20mA , we added a 250 Ω resistor. Current = voltage / resistance. Therefore, Ω = 18ma 4.5V / 250 . This is exactly the right current we need to pass the LED . If we choose a smaller resistance value, we will exceed the maximum rated forward current of 20mA . Exceeding this level will damage or destroy the LED , so this should not be done. However, if you want to dim the output, you can use a larger resistance value.

Use of UV LEDs

Now that we have built the circuit and emitted ultraviolet light, what is the use of this ultraviolet light? What can we do with it?

The answer is that ultraviolet light has many uses and can be used to measure matter.

UV can be used to reveal the US currency seat belt, which can reveal the watermark hidden in the banknote, it can inform the anti-counterfeiting measures of fluorescent inks and dyes on the credit card, it can illuminate the dice, it can check the hand stamp at the amusement park, scan a foreign Materials for crime scenes, and more.

Basically, UV LEDs and flashlights have a wide range of uses for things that are invisible to the naked eye. They are widely used in security measures, especially for identifying counterfeit and credit cards.
