More than 9,000 LEDs decorate the huge windmill into a shining Christmas star.

Siemens has illuminated the world's largest LED Christmas star designed by multimedia artist Michael Pendley, with a diameter of nearly 70 meters and almost a football field. This shiny LED Christmas star can be seen in the north of Munich every evening.
The Siemens Superstar is a pioneering technology project and an important symbol of the Copenhagen Global Climate Conference. Luo Xude, President and CEO of Siemens, said that green innovation has brightened our bright future.
Siemens, together with Munich multimedia artist Michael Pendley, completed the project after 12 months of development. A total of 9,000 OSRAM LEDs were installed on the windmill, which is as bright as 20,000 Christmas candles. However, the entire LED lighting device uses only one hair dryer or electric kettle. In good weather, this Christmas star can be seen from 30 kilometers away.
The lighting system also used nearly 400 meters of cable, adding 100 kilograms of weight to each blade. The LED above is fixed under the blade with the super glue used in aerospace, because in the high wind, the force of the LED is more than 3 times the gravity, which is equivalent to an astronaut experiencing a rocket launch.

In the spring of 2009, experts in disciplines such as wind, aerodynamics, lighting and adhesives gathered to describe all the necessary aspects of implementing a project. Several major issues must be addressed: The aerodynamic effects of LEDs on wind turbines are as small as possible? What type of LED is used? Which adhesive is used to ensure the LED is strong in any bad weather?
By the end of the summer, wind energy experts completed a simulation analysis of the effects on aerodynamics on a computer. Then, the test in actual conditions was started: in the wind tunnel of the Technical University of Berlin, more than 15 models were tested, including different LED products, structures and lighting cable routing, until the best combination was found. Tests have shown that the installation of LED lighting has only a small impact on the performance of the wind turbine.
However, even after the wind tunnel test has been completed, all obstacles have not been cleared. It has also been approved by the relevant authorities. Last but not least, the LED lighting system must be installed within two weeks. After 30 technicians work day and night, Siemens' superstars shine brightly. The unique lighting animation took a full two days to complete. The brightness of the light can be adjusted in real time based on the speed of the various wind or wind turbines.
